Early life and education (1971-1990)
Navneet Kalra was born on 16 October 1971 in New Delhi. He comes from a business background. His father, Shri Dayal Das Kalra, used to run a spectacles and sunglasses retail business called Dayal Opticals in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar.
He completed his schooling at Delhi Public School, RK Puram, Delhi. He later went on to pursue higher education at the College of Vocational Studies, University of Delhi.
Navneet Kalra considers his father to be his idol and source of inspiration.
Navneet Kalra’s entry into business circles (1990-2000)
Navneet Kalra started up his first business at the young age of 19 years. It was a garments business based in Delhi, which he ran for over a decade. He later chose to shut it down in order to move to new opportunities.
During the late 1990s, Navneet Kalra also assumed command of Dayal Opticals, thus marking his entry into the family business. Under his leadership, Dayal Opticals expanded to several new locations across Delhi. The venture also established itself as one of the most popular eyewear retail chains in the national capital.
Navneet Kalra in restaurant business (2000-present)
After shutting down his garments business, Navneet Kalra forayed into the hospitality business with a restaurant named Blanco. The success of the restaurant encouraged him to explore the industry further.
Later, Navneet Kalra went on to open several high-end restaurants at prime locations across Delhi NCR, the most famous ones being Town Hall, Public Affair, Mr. Choy, Kakapo, and Nege & Ju. However, Navneet Kalra is best known as the owner of Khan Chacha – a popular chain of kebab and rolls eatery. While Khan Chacha was started in the Khan market, Navneet Kalra gradually expanded the restaurant to many new locations in the NCR.
